VIDEO TASK

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C86pLho1hlE

This video is from “3 IDIOTS“ . I have chosen it because it is very impressive. In this scene , there is a conversation between a university professor and one of his students. The professor asks to the students 'What is a machine ? ' Raju answers simply but the professor doesn't accept his answer. Another student says a definition from the book . The professor says ' Excellent '. There is no difference , Raju says the same thing by using a simple language. I think teachers shouldn't expect definitions from the books , they should permit to students to explain their ideas clearly. This film is the best film I have ever watched.

  1. I have also seen that part and thougth about it the same with you. To begin with your first question.,The professor,as you have already mentioned, is waiting for a very complicated answer from his students. Rather than wanting the students to answer is simply and clearly, He is determined to urge them to memorize the written explanations,definitions without asking any question. The second question of yours is really making me feel different:) The same education in India or the place where this film is telling is the same with my own country,ALAS. In my opinion as well, There can be very long,academic definitions of THE MACHINE. However We are to make it shorter for everyone to understand. MACHINE is anything that can be used for any certain purpose: this is my definition of machine. Raju,in his thoughts,really summarizes and criticizes the bad and ,traditional acceptance/conditions of his country. Fulctrum is help in my opinion., pulley is a circle,pivot is distance,nib is a climax:)) As for the last 2 questions, This video is impressive and interesting.You can not find ay better than that :)) It deserves a full point like all of our friendss' blog works:) and THE ADJECTIVE BLINDLY leaves no place to explain more. IT shortens every word that is,without questioning,accepting something is blindly action

  2. Hi Merve!
    I have watched the film, too, and I still watch it when I need to laugh, to feel good, to remember somethings. When it comes to your task, I really enjoy going through it. Now, I want to continue with your exercises :)
    1.) The professor expects from the students to speak like books, to memmorize.
    2.) A machina is anything that reduces human effort. ( Raju's answer:))
    3.) He must think that the Education System makes students to memmorize. It just teach them what we should think, not how we should think. However, according to Raju, schools should teach how we should think.

    To tell the truth, I have difficulty in answering your vocabulary question which I don' t know. So, I get help from dictionary after some guess.
    Fulcrum= support
    pivot= mile, or fulcrum
    pulley= circle
    nib= pen-point
    As I sad before, I Iike watching the video which is both pretty educative and attracting. In addition, I appreciate all the contribution. The last thing I want to say is that your video is with English Subtitles, so I don't have any difficulty in finding the first three question. However, this problem arise from being Indian production of the film. The meaning of blindly is not able to see what is around you. It may imply to shorten a word according to your thinking.
    -That is my answers and comments-
